Welcome to Proactive Intention

A proactive approach to making healthy change for a more joyful life.
My experience allows me to offer effective outpatient, individualized, psychological care. I specialize in anxiety, depression, life transition, and relational conflict. I work with individuals, ages 14 and up, and couples.
My focus is to help individuals heal, energize, and become aware of their inner strengths through a proactive approach to living life with intention. It is my practice to provide a neutral safe space, listen to your concerns, and customize an individual treatment plan.
I promise to be there for you every step of your journey. My goal is to work with you to help you grow from your struggles, heal from your pain, and move forward to where you want to be in your life.
Many things can impact our overall health. Due to factors from genetics to life experience, we can develop and experience a myriad of challenging and uncomfortable conditions. Psychotherapy in a safe space is designed to allow an individual to partner with a professional to both understand what they are feeling and to learn the skills needed to feel better. Through counseling and treatment, we aim to help you recover motivation, perspective, and joy that you once had in your life.
Feeling down or constantly worried with no explanation can be isolating and scary. This can lead to a lack of self-confidence and a lack of self-worth. We can help you process and work through these complicated feelings, help you feel less alone and work with you to restore a stronger sense of self.
Relational skills counseling can be beneficial to individuals who are looking to strengthen their emotional connection with friends, family members or romantic partners. Therapy sessions focus on learning to be more self-aware and self-reflective when navigating conflict or complication within relationships. Clients will also learn better boundary-setting skills in order to strengthen the security and trust between them and others.
My name is Kelly Sawyer. I am passionate about helping people find their path to a joyous and healthy life. I am a problem-solving, humanistic psychotherapist that uses a variety of therapeutic approaches to help people understand their pain, discover their potential and see their intentions through to fruition.
After a 22-year career as a high school French teacher, I returned to the collegiate life to pursue a 2nd master's degree to become a mental health therapist. I graduated from Michigan State University with my masters in Clinical Social Work in 2017 and am now a fully licensed clinician.
My first career allowed for me to experience and participate in the development of young men and women. My focus shifted as I was seeing more and more students who were struggling with low self-esteem, anxiety and depression. It has become my passion to assist people, ages 14 and up, with understanding their inner conflict, connecting with their strengths and beginning to live life on their terms to achieve their goals and bask in what brings them joy.
I believe that the universe responds to how we see it. When we live life being faithful and unapologetic to our truths, we attract the experiences and relationships that we want. I work to understand the individual with whom I hold space, offer objective insight and allow them the grace and time to give themselves permission to be happy and productive in the life they choose.
